Topical Application of Fluoride

Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth.

It also reverses early decay. Fluoride can be applied to the teeth as a gel, foam, rinse, or varnish. These treatments contain a much higher level of fluoride than the amount found in toothpaste and over-the-counter mouth rinses.

This is the final part of dental cleaning. It is best not to eat, drink or rinse for 30 minutes after the fluoride has been applied.
